23rd September 2020
May we begin by thanking you for preparing your children so well for the start of their secondary education. They look very smart in their new uniforms: we are proud of them already.
We are pleased to inform you of an event that will help develop the partnership between home and school. We are delighted to invite you to our ‘Meet the Tutor & Core Subjects’ information evening on Thursday 1st October. This event will run from 4.00 pm until 6.00 pm.
You can arrive at a time to suit, and see a short presentation, which will be repeated at 4 pm, 4.30pm and 5pm. It will take place in your child’s tutor room and at the end of each presentation, your child’s tutor will be able to answer any general questions that you may have. Although some tutors may also teach your child, this will not specifically be a forum to discuss subject progress with them; if you would like to discuss any academic issues with the tutor then please feel free to contact them at any time.
English and Mathematics teachers will also be available between 4pm until 5.30pm to explain how these subjects are taught in Year 7, and how you can best help your child. Please feel free to ‘drop in’ to the New Canteen if you wish to chat to the English and Mathematics staff. Mr. Redmayne, who oversees Literacy lessons, will also be in the New Canteen at this time. Mrs Karran, our SENDCo, and Mr Potts, our Deputy SENDCo, will also be available throughout the evening.
Ballakermeen High School Association (BHSA) will meet on Tuesday 13th October at 6.30pm in the school library. The BHSA is a group of like-minded parents who want to support the school through fund-raising and other events. There are only six meetings throughout the year and these usually last less than an hour. BHSA also runs a 300 Club with monthly prize draws. This is an easy way for busy parents to make a contribution to the association, which has done a considerable amount over the years to support the school. Please help it to continue by becoming a member of the 300 Club, which costs £2 a month.
An application form can be downloaded from our website: www.bhs.sch.im. You can also print the BHSA calendar from the website. It has key dates for the year and can be downloaded by clicking on the ‘Information’ link, followed by ‘Key Dates & Holidays’, then ‘BHSA Calendar’. Hard copies of the calendar can also be collected from school, if you prefer.
We look forward to seeing you and welcoming you to our school community.
