As you may be aware, we are moving away from using Google Classroom and apps such as Google Drive and Gmail from September 2026. We will be using Office software, Teams, OneDrive and Outlook.

  • No new Google classrooms will be created, and teachers will not be adding new materials to the classrooms you are in. You will be added to Teams classes from September.
  • Google accounts for the current Year 7, 8 and 9 will be deactivated during October half-term 2026 but not deleted. Students in these year groups WILL NOT be able to log in once the accounts are deactivated.
  • Current Year 10 and 12 accounts will remain active until the end of the 2026 - 2027 academic year, mainly to support coursework you may have stored on Google Drive.
  • Digital communication with teachers will move to Outlook if students have consent to use it. This includes communication such as copies of school reports and examination information, which is also given in other apps such as Arbor.
  • All students need to download anything they need from Google Drive and put it into their OneDrive ASAP. This includes coursework stored on Google Drive. This can be done at school or at home.
  • NOTE: OneDrive is your ‘Documents’ folder when you log into a device in school or the OneDrive app when logging into Office.com through a browser at home. You can organise your folders by subject or create one called GOOGLE to place all downloaded materials into.
  • Support material from DESC, which gives details of logging into Office.com at home and downloading files from Google to OneDrive, can be found below.
  • Years 7, 8 and 9 students will be given lessons in ICT about Teams, OneDrive and Outlook. Students currently in 7 and 8 will be shown how to download files from Google Drive.

If you have any questions, please speak to Mrs Dean in L6 or your ICT/Computing teacher.
