Employability/Careers Education Support & Guidance at Ballakermeen High School

We are justifiably proud of our careers education and guidance at Ballakermeen which runs throughout a learner’s tenure here. The school’s careers and employability policy takes its ethos and direction from the Isle of Man Government’s Careers Education and Guidance Framework and thecareers and education programme employs a vast range of diverse partnerships which help to fulfil an aspirational programme of careers support and guidance. These include (not exhaustive);

  • Careers assemblies
  • A programme of Work Experience
  • Careers interviews
  • A number of visits to various careers exhibitions
  • Working with a number of external agencies including Junior Achievement, Employed.im and Career Ready
  • The school’s own PSHE programme
  • Working with UCM to provide visits and extra support
  • Mock Interviews for Year 11

Furthermore, our vocational curriculum offer continues to grow in partnership with BTEC, SQA, ASDAN and the John Muirs Environmental Award. Members of the SLT also attend the 14-19 and Employability curriculum meetings with the DESC which include staff from the careers service and UCM.
