Support & Guidance at Ballakermeen
We are justifiably proud of our careers education and guidance at Ballakermeen which runs throughout a learner’s tenure here. The school’s careers and employability policy takes its ethos and direction from the Isle of Man Government’s Careers Education and Guidance Framework and thecareers and education programme employs a vast range of diverse partnerships which help to fulfil an aspirational programme of careers support and guidance. These include (not exhaustive):
- Careers assemblies
- Careers interviews
- A number of visits to various careers exhibitions
- Working with external agencies including Junior Achievement, Inspiring the Future and Unifrog
- The school’s own PSHE programme
- Working with UCM to provide visits and extra support
- Mock Interviews for Year 11
Furthermore, our vocational curriculum offer continues to grow in partnership with BTEC, SQA, ASDAN and the John Muirs Environmental Award. Members of the SLT also attend the 14-19 and Employability curriculum meetings with the DESC which include staff from the careers service and UCM.
National Apprenticeship Week 2024
Taking place between 5th - 11th February 2024, National Apprenticeship Week is celebrated all around the UK and is "a week-long celebration that brings together businesses and apprentices across the country to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy".
To find out more about apprenticeships at UCM, you can visit their open event on Saturday 10th February between 10am – 1pm at the Homefield Road Campus. DESC’s Apprenticeship team will be on hand to answer any questions you have, as well as some business representatives.
