Canteen Opening Times
Our extensive kitchen facilities and multi-purpose canteen halls are available to students during breakfast, break, and lunch times.
The canteen opens for breakfast from 8.00am with sausage and bacon baps, fruit and cold drinks on offer.
At break time, students can enjoy any of the hot and cold snacks available as well as bottled drinks. Some of the snacks on offer at break times vary from day to day and can include toast, fruit and chocolate bars.
At lunch time, students have the choice of a hot meal, salad boxes or sandwiches and wraps. The meal of the day changes daily and often has a limited number of alternatives or variations. Vegetarian options are available with every meal but additional meal requirements should be arranged with the canteen manager – please contact the school if your child has a specific dietary requirement.
Menu & Price List
Please note that the menu is under constant review and our food is prepared daily so is subject to change at short notice. If you have any queries about the menu or price list, please email bhsenquiries@sch.im for the attention of Mr Tate, the Catering Manager, and he will get back to you as soon as possible.
Meals of the day are displayed in advance on the plasma TV screens in the canteens and tutors will normally read the weekly menu out to students in tutor time. The most popular meal option is the daily meal-deal, which for £3.00 includes the meal of the day and a choice of either a drink or a dessert/fruit.
All items and meals from the canteen can only be paid for using a cashless SmartCard, the canteen is not equipped to process cash or bank cards. Lunch money should be added to your child’s smartcard account via ParentPay. We do not accept cheques.
Water is freely available from the fountains and jugs in each canteen. As the school aims to reduce the use of single use plastic we recommend that students bring a refillable drinks bottle into school to help them stay well hydrated.

Allergies and special dietary requirements
Ballakermeen is ‘allergy aware’ and our catering team are very careful to avoid using, where possible, ingredients that contain known allergens. If your child has allergies please contact the school so a risk assessment can be undertaken. Charts in the canteen help students to identify possible allergens in the meals being served.
Please speak to any member of the kitchen staff if you have any special dietary requirements, or suffer from any allergies, and they will be happy to assist you.
Please note we cannot guarantee any produce made in school is allergen free as many ingredients come from factories where other products containing allergens are also used.
