Year 10 student Evie created her very own podcast, 'Talking in the Dark' to raise awareness about blindness, visual impairment and disability in general, in a happy and light-hearted way. Evie was born with a condition called bilateral anopthalmia, meaning her eyes didn’t develop, and as a result Evie now wears prosthetics. Through the podcast Evie aims to get rid of the stigma and stereotypes around disabilities whilst having fun conversations at the same time! During the interviews Evie will talk to people from all walks of life, including, at times, people with physical conditions like hers, getting to know all about them and the lives that they lead.

To say that Fearne Cotton is an icon of British broadcasting would be a huge understatement. Over her long and highly successful career Fearne has presented many of the popular TV and Radio programs we have all grown to love and cherish, such as; Top of the Pops, Red Nose Day, Children In Need, and the Radio 1 Chart Show. In 2018 Fearne created the Happy Place Podcast, a wonderful weekly podcast in which she talks to celebrity and expert guests about matters around lifestyle, spirituality, and wellbeing. Due to the success of the podcast Fearne then established the Happy Place Festival, a yearly gathering at which festival goers engage in a range of rewarding live events promoting self-love and mindfulness. Fearne is also a much-loved writer and author who has published numerous books on a wide range of subjects and themes, all of which share the same aim of spreading positivity and joy into the world.

In this episode of Talking in the Dark, Evie sat down with Fearne to discuss her life and career. Over the course of this lovely chat Fearne shared with Evie lots of personal experiences including studying for her GCSEs, dealing with anxiety, starting the Happy Place Podcast and Festival, and looking after her completely ‘outrageous’ pet tortoise George!

We were extremely grateful to Fearne for sharing her time with us and we appreciate and value her kindness and support very much. Fearne is a truly inspiring and utterly wonderful human being.
