The Senior Hockey team played in the semi final last night against a strong CRHS side. We were definitely the underdogs in this fixture, having lost 4-0 in the league and finishing 4th overall compared to their 1st position.
However, the girls were up for this and really brought their ‘A’ game! Balla took an early lead with a goal from Lara and worked hard to maintain this throughout the majority of the first half, conceding just before the half time whistle. Raring to go in the second half, Lucy put us in front, before CRHS equalised. This standard of play unsettled CRHS and Ballakermeen worked so hard as a team to finish the match 2-2. This meant the game went to penalty flicks. The girls bravely stepped up to score from the spot – it took 8 attempts before a winner was decided and unfortunately it wasn’t in favour of BHS. Such a shame that the result had to be decided this way.
The whole team played out of their skins – the result felt like a win and every single one of them should be proud of their achievements on the pitch. The team are pictured below (minus Jess who had to rush off before the photo for an appointment).
