Poetry loving students had a treat this week, when they were presented with a poetry book from the collection of Hilary Adams, who sadly passed away, leaving her daughter Kate with a vast collection of poetry books to deal with. The photo shows Kate with some of the students who were selected by their teachers and the librarian to receive a book. Kate is a poet herself, and wrote this poem to celebrate her mother’s legacy:

Dear mum, Your Legacy, 25th May 2025

How fitting today, of all days,

I tackle mountains of books

Surprising streams of words

Old, new, barely remembered

Feelings drifting with the time

Of days, years, the memories

Cascades of paper

- oh… and dust

You are watching us, Stacey

With me, we celebrate your passion reigniting mine.

We share your words, words of others

- oh… and laughter

You’re guiding me

Who can have these books, not unimportant,

But a match for you, with you, as you

They are poets, teachers, readers, actors, friends

Oh … and I the willing guardian of your legacy

- Kate Kirk
