Dear Parent / Carer

Memorial Walk - Tuesday 19th July 2022

Every two years since 1991 we have undertaken a charity walk involving the whole school, usually walking to Port Soderick via Marine Drive. The walk commemorates those connected with the school who have lost their lives, both students and staff, and we usually raise money for Manx charities. This year we are asking students to bring in a £1 donation which will be collected as they leave school to begin the walk. Students will be walking with members of their House and we would like them to wear an item of clothing in their House colour.

For 2022, we have changed the route and will walk along the Heritage Trail to Marown Memorial Playing Fields. We will then have lunch in Marown before returning along the Heritage Trail to conclude the walk at The Bowl.

Permission to walk stickers will be in planners and should be signed by parents as soon as possible.

If students do not have permission to walk from parents/carers, they will be supervised at school.

Following the walk, if you wish your child to be escorted back to school and supervised until 3.20pm, please put a note in your child’s planner, otherwise they will be dismissed from The Bowl. The first students will return between 2.10pm and 2.30pm with the final groups finishing by 3.00pm.

Those students wishing to return to school to catch a bus will be escorted.

We will postpone the walk to Wednesday 20th July if the weather is inclement. Students should wear suitable clothing, including a waterproof coat if light showers are forecast. Depending on the weather, you may wish to provide your child with sunscreen and/or a hat. It is very important that students wear comfortable shoes, such as trainers. Students will require a packed lunch as only snacks and drinks will be on sale at Marown Memorial Playing Fields (cash only – no smartcards). Packed lunches will be provided for those who have free school meals.

Thank you in anticipation of your support.

Yours sincerely,
