22nd September 2023
Dear Parent/Carer,
May we begin by thanking you for preparing your children so well for the start of their secondary education. They look very smart in their new uniforms: we are proud of them already.
We are pleased to inform you of an event that will help develop the partnership between home and school. We are delighted to invite you to our ‘Meet the Tutor & Core Subjects’ information evening on Wednesday 27th September. This event will run from 4pm until 6pm.
You can arrive at a time to suit and see a short presentation from the Head of Year, Mrs Clarke, which will take place in the New Canteen at 4pm and will be repeated at 4.30pm and 5pm. Further to this you will be able to meet your child’s tutor in their tutor room. The tutor will also give a short presentation, running at the same time as those of the Head of Year, and following this your child’s tutor will be able to answer any general questions that you may have. Although some tutors may also teach your child, this will not specifically be a forum to discuss subject progress with them; if you would like to discuss any academic issues with the tutor then please feel free to contact them at any time.
English, Mathematics and Science staff will also be available between 4pm until 6pm to explain how these subjects are taught in Year 7, and how you can best help your child. Please feel free to ‘drop in’ to the Old Canteen if you wish to chat to the English, Mathematics and Science staff. Mr. Redmayne, who oversees Literacy lessons, will also be in the venue at this time. Mrs Karran, our SENDCo, and Mr Potts, our Deputy SENDCo, will also be available throughout the evening.
An information booklet with more detail about Year 7 at Ballakermeen is available for you to download/view: here
Ballakermeen High School Association (BHSA) will meet on Tuesday 3rd October at 6.30pm in the school library. The BHSA is a group of like-minded parents who want to support the school through fund-raising and other events. There are only six meetings throughout the year and these usually last less than an hour. BHSA also runs a 300 Club with monthly prize draws. This is an easy way for busy parents to make a contribution to the association, which has done a considerable amount over the years to support the school. Please help it to continue by becoming a member of the 300 Club, which costs £2 a month.
An application form can be downloaded here. You can also print the BHSA calendar: here which contains key dates for the year. Hard copies of the calendar can also be collected from school, if you prefer.
We look forward to seeing you and welcoming you to our school community. Yours faithfully
Miss J Hicks
