Team Apollo at Gen_E 2023

Published Monday 17 July 2023

Junior Achievement IOM Team Apollo - Leo, Praveen, Danielle and Freddie - our incredibly talented Sixth Formers, won the prestigious Intel Corporation AI Innovators Award in June 2023! The award recognises Junior Achievement teams who have used AI tools and methodologies responsibly to create purposeful solutions that address various local and global challenges.

Apollo beat hundreds of teams across Europe to the award by developing a Heads Up Display system called Vision, which projects driving information, such as current speed and hazard warnings, directly onto the windscreen, within the driver's field of vision, as well as identifying developing road hazards and providing timely warnings. Though this sort of technology is already available, it is normally only available in top of the range cars; Apollo has made it more accessible for all.

In July, the team then travelled to the GEN-E festival in Istanbul, Europe’s largest entrepreneurship event, to represent the Island alongside Student Company of the Year winners Team Mindcore from St Ninian’s High School. Apollo received their Intel AI Innovators Award, after competing against other European teams in the Virtual Expo, then held a Trade Stand Exhibition.

Thank you to Junior Achievement Isle of Man and congratulations to Leo, Praveen, Danielle, and Freddie. We’re extremely proud of you!
